ASHFORD...here at last?
Isn't it great that Ashford has
once again got another bash on the radio, albeit still temporary. When
the radio authority finally get round to granting Ashford a licence, who
will it be?
There are currently only two contenders, as far we know at this stage,
AshfordFM - run and operated by a company that specialises in community
radio stations, the second is LarkFM, house and supported by the KM
Group, who seem keen on trying to dominate all forms of Kent's media
outlets.
Ultimately Ashford residents will get their own local radio station, it
just seems a shame that the residents can't vote on which one is
actually preferred. No doubt whoever wins the licence will still have to
struggle against numorous people stating they preferred the other one.
The biggest problem both face is balancing programs to try and please
the majority, which over time will be tailored to those residents who
actually listen. Then there's the competition - trying to lure listeners
from the bigger stations, both county and national ones.
